The Art of Recovery
Operating a coffee shop or restaurant is a calamity of a multi-faceted machine. At any one moment, there can be at least 4-10 different issues that require your attention whether it’s a broken piece of hardware, an employee calling in sick, ran out of napkins, or a natural disaster, your customers expect the same great service day in and day out, which is what they deserve. Most customers...

stayingclassyincollege: You don’t even need a coffee maker. Instant will do. Here’s everything: milk (any kind you like - I use skim), coffee (ideally espresso or a dark, bold roast - I use Folger’s Black Silk), any flavor coffee syrup (found at Starbucks, Target, etc.), a closeable, microwavable container (make sure…

Sampling for Dummies
A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to get a free full size menu item from one of our customers here in New York. They giveaway 1000 free items every time they open a new store to let people know that they’re there, which in New York even if 1000’s of people walk by your shop on a daily basis, you still need to standout and make your shop known. Sampling is a cheap and easy way to have...

How clean is your coffee shop?
After seeing this post on Eater Seattle, http://seattle.eater.com/archives/2011/09/29/zoka-responds-to-allegations-of-rat-poo.php#more, it got me thinking about restaurants and cafes that are known for their amazing and delicious menu, but fall short in the cleanliness department. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have a sub-par meal from a super clean place than eat at a 4-star...

The Tale of Office Coffee
My tale starts back in November when I would go to the Starbucks that I pass on my way to the office. The line wasn’t too bad and the coffee was hot plus if I didn’t go for the taste that morning some Vanilla syrup and cream made it drinkable. The thing that got me was the $2.40 per 16oz cup, which is almost $50 a month!! My officemate also would stop to grab a coffee too so between the two of us...
